Phase 2:Paint RemovalProcess by Media Blast. All paint must be removed in order to reveal hidden rust. This step is very important for estimating damage and replacement/repair costs.
Phase 3:Rust repair is the most important and most skill-based phase of restoration. Sheet Metal fabrication is necessary for most classic cars due to scarcity of new or even used parts. After-market parts are a necessary part of restoration.
Phase 4:Body Repair, as a VW specialty repair shop you can rest knowing that we can repair any amount of body damage to even the most discerning eye.
Phase 5: Primer Very exciting for us, the shop and you, the customer. This phase marks a turning point in the restoration process. Most of the hard work has been done and you can begin to see what the finished product will look like. The primer coat is a manifestation of the work that was done, and it becomes the new canvas for the project ahead.
Phase 6:Prep to Paint Requires a discriminating eye and a patient (often time-consuming touch). The vehicle needs to be taped perfectly so to achieve the highest quality of refinishing. This is done by strategically hiding any tape lines or laying the tape in a way that leaves no line and protects the parts of the vehicle that won’t be painted.
Phase 7:Painting Stephen has 10 years of experience working on V-Dubs and knows exactly where they require the most attention.
Phase 8: Polishing. Normally we apply 4-5 coats of color and 4 coats of clear. The polishing process requires sanding 2 to 3 different times with different grades of ultra fine wet sand paper, 3 different grades of polishing compound, the Glass Mirror Finish will reflect all the hours of intense meticulous labor.
Phase 10: Reupholstery ofinterior, seats, carpeting, head liner. Install pre-made carpet kits or custom make them. This phase is the final stage of the restoration process at our body shop.
